Despite the turmoil in the course of this interval, the college ongoing to expand and construction of the Oviatt Library started on May 19, 1971. The university also formally renamed by itself to California State University, Northridge on June 1, 1972, by action of the Legislature and the Board of Trustees of the California State University.
