Nexium, a common medicine and sometimes called Esomeprazole, is an anti-ulcer medication that prevents stomach acid from splashing up into the esophagus. This can help reduce inflammation of the esophagus (esophagitis) and protect your teeth from getting damaged. Nexium can also be used in combination with other medicines to treat ulcers caused by acid reflux disease (GERD).
